Living through a kitchen-remodeling project can be a challenge. To make the process more enjoyable and hassle free, Heartwood Kitchens suggests the following:
Create a temporary mini-kitchen in your dining room, family room or other convenient area in your home. Equip it with everything you need: a microwave oven, hotplate, coffee maker and basic cooking utensils. Small appliances such as electric steamers, crock-pots and electric woks may also be useful. Paper products and plastic utensils are a must - and a great alternative to having to wash dishes! Buy food that's already divided into portions, such as microwavable entrees. Or, prepare your own microwavable meals before the remodeling begins. Keep an array of menus and coupons on hand from local restaurants that offer free delivery, for those nights when you need a break from the microwave. Better yet, treat yourself and your family to a mini-vacation. A getaway offers a distraction for children, who often have the hardest time coping when their familiar surroundings are out of order.
